Count 'em....two finishes!

I'm happy I will end February with
two Crazy Challenge finishes.

 BOAF "Bloom"
Stitched on 32ct PTP Doubloon
w/DMC

BOAF "Kindness Sampler"
Stitched on 32ct PTP Doubloon
w/DMC

So glad to finally have these stitched.
I did make the decision to use DMC.  I wasn't
too happy with the colorations of the
recommended hand-dyed thread I had
I guess the dye lots have changed somewhat
since the designs are a little older and
they didn't favor the picture at all.

Don't you just hate it when that happens?
I did a little "research" and found a couple
of finishes using the DMC and I liked
them so I off I went. I am very happy with the
finishes and think I am falling in love
with DMC again....weird!!!

The second thing about these two I really like
is the PTP fabric I used.  I have some in my stash
for awhile and am using it a lot for my
Challenge pieces.    I love the way it stitches....
better start making my list & saving my pennies
for their annual sale this summer!

I've noticed that several bloggers have
picked up a bug lately....

"the clean & organize my craft room" bug.

If you have it, please send it over this way!
I definitely need something to get mine under control.

I'm glad so many of you found the Fabric Tac
tip helpful.  I do warn you....if you haven't used it,
you may wish to start on something simple.
Hate to think you ruined a future family
heirloom because of me!

Well....I now get to start another snowman!
Happy stitching....

  1. Lovely finishes! There is something so fun about the size of those flowers compared to everything else in the pieces!

  2. Oh wow, so gorgeous!!!! I swear, sometimes good old DMC is just nicer than those overdyeds. I find overdyeds annoying sometimes. lol!

  3. Both your finishes are absolutely wonderful. I love the colors of both of them - so rich - and that fabric just sets the colors off perfectly.

I know what you mean about some of the other threads changing over time. I guess that's the good thing about DMC - it never changes, but one skein of Thyme thread from GAST can look totally different in the next batch! That's probably why I use DMC for most of my things!

  4. Oh, I love them both Karen!! I love DMC for it's consistency (and it's great price!!)--have had so many problems with overdyeds looking completely different from what is pictured on a chart!

  5. Love your finishes. I have both in my stash and I think when I get around to stitching them, I will also use DMC. I like the clarity and crispness of the colors!

  6. These are wonderful, Karen! I like DMC. I like to wash, I like to iron...so colorfastness matters to me! I also like the straighter colorways, not always spot on but most often they stay much the same between lots.

  7. Karen, love your finishes! Such great designs and so colorful! I just organized my stash this weekend, so I will send that 'bug' your way now ;)

  9. PTP never fails to please does it? The DMC looks really good on it. Love your BOAF pieces. Sadly I began stitching too recently to have more than 1 BOAF chart.

  10. Two lovely pieces! I don't know what the called for overdyeds were, but the DMC really looks great.

I still need to keep my bug, but when I am finished, I will send it your way - LOL!

  14. Gorgeous finishes!!!! You are doing great on the challenge...I, on the other hand...just started 3 new projects! Naughty!

  15. Karen, both finishes are beautiful! The bad thing about getting organized is all that time lost for stitching, lol. There is something special about using dmc...they've always been for us. Hugs, babs

  20. These are so pretty Karen. I love the DMC colors you used and I'm with you about falling in love with DMC again. I've gone back to it lately and you know sometimes it's just good to get back to basics.

  21. I like both those BOAF's with the DMC Karen. I get upset sometimes with the CC & GA threads because the colors used on the model look great and then I go and pull my colors I have and they do not match at all.. I have started using DMC again too! I will be using your Fabric Tac Tip tomorrow on some little pillows!! I will post them by weeks end!

  26. Karen you are such a beautiful stitcher and your work is always just fantastic.
    Love the colours.

  27. Beautiful finishes, Karen! Oh, how I love BOAF! I think they look fantastic both in the DMC and on that PTP. Truthfully, I prefer a solid background or a solid thread--I think if there's a lot of variegation in both, it just looks a bit overdone. I am loving DMC again, too. I will always love silk but DMC fits the budget and then I can put away $$ for framing.

  28. Beautiful finishes, congratulations!

  34. The DMC conversions look fantastic. Pardon my brain lapse, PTP fabric? It's on the tip of my tongue.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh Karen, you go girl! Congrats on the finishes. They look great! I don't know what the other floss would have looked like but I certainly like the DMC version. Very nice!

  36. Oh Karen I absolutely love both your BOAF finishes. They looks gorgeous stitched in DMC. I think Bloom is going on my ever growing wish list! The PTP fabric looks lovely.

  37. I must say that I really like DMC threads more so than the "designer" ones. I think it has a much better feel & it goes through & covers the fabric so much better. That's been my experience anyway. I really like both your stitching projects! Blessings, Shirlee

  41. Congrats girl! You're smokin'! Beautiful finishes Karen :o) Do you want to send some of that mojo my way?

  42. Both are really lovely finishes!
I've been having a problem with dye lot changes on a couple of the older charts I started stitching.
I've already decided to go with DMC on the one for sure.
I discovered PTP fabric last year and I love stitching with it! I ordered some at their sale and I'm already saving for the next one.

  43. Two gorgeous finishes and they look just as lovely stitched in DMC. You are reminding me of how much I like BOAF designs.

  44. I'm very behind on commenting Karen. First of all, love your framed pieces and your snowmen! Secondly, two great finishes. I've been using DMC more lately and I'm definitely liking that you don't have to worry about the colours not being colourfast.

  45. I love these finishes!!!!! They are adorable!!! I do like the DMC colors, I think they look very nice~

  46. Great finishes Karen. I love DMC and think it will always be my favorite.

  47. Two super finishes Karen, they look great stitched in DMC.

  48. Good work! Once again Karen, you've inspired me to pull out and stitch Bloom where' you're planted. It's a true beauty and your choice of fabric is perfect for the design. we have a long weekend coming up. Maybe it's just what I need to revive a slightly flagging stitching mojo. (hugs) Pokua

  50. Oh, Karen, you BOAF pieces are beautiful. I tried to comment twice on your previous post about your framed pieces but had problems..OMG, as usual, your stitching and framed pieces are stunning. Every time I see Their Song, I want to drop whatever I am working on and stitch it.

  51. Both your finishes are gorgeous! Just love BOAF designs!

  52. Just lovely finishes!!!! I think your choice to go with DMC worked out really well. Sometimes those hand dyes just don't look like the model and it changes the look of the whole design, not always for the better. When I open my DMC boxes, the colors are so pretty I sometimes wonder why I don't use it more. lol The linen choice is just fabulous as well! I've never had any linen from that company but it's very very pretty. :)

  53. Lovely finishes. At least DMC remains the same. Looking forward to seeing your next projects.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Congrats on two gorgeous finishes! I use DMC for the majority of my stitching and then WDW for when I want something a bit special.
    Best wishes.

  55. That "Bloom" just sings to me. You have such a beautiful blog. Lots of eye candy for me.

I need to catch that clean up bug as well!

  56. These are so pretty Karen!! I love how they pop.....You need to give me a heads up on the PTP next time....seriously, I love the look of these on that fabric~~

Take care and be safe with the rough weather...

  58. Oh, my! Those BOAFs are gorgeous!! Ha - no bug here. I keep thinking I need to... but that's as far as it gets! Enjoy the spring!

  59. Love these two finishes! Very nice!

  60. Congrats Karen, they both look fantastic! You can't even tell that they are not stitched with overdyeds, I think. Can you share your DMC picks - pretty please!? :-)

Yes, the cleaning-the-craft-room bug... sigh.. that one keeps coming back to visit me ever so often. I think it's hinting that my craft-room is too small...

  61. Gorgeous finishes Karen! I love those BOAF patterns and have thought about purchasing them. Good to know about the overdyes though. It seems to be the way with older designs. I think the DMC looks fabulous! And the PTP linen you used is lovely!!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Love 'em! Especially "Bloom". I get into modes when I am all about DMC "Nothin' Better!!" I say with satisfaction in my head. Usually, the bigger I am on a Prairie Schooler kick, the more into DMC I get. :D

  63. Luv both your BOAF finishes, great linen choice, really appreciate seeing the Doubloon, makes a lovely presentation. Also like that you chose DMC, sometimes simple works better, and the mind can go numb after a while with overdyeds (at least mine can) LOL! Happy Spring to you Karen:)
