Goode Huswife "Sheldon Hawks House"....

My first finish this year....

Goode Huswife "Sheldon Hawks House"
32 ct coffee-dyed linen w/ recommended DMC

Started on New Year's Day, this is my first finish for 2010! ( Thank goodness for all of the college bowl games on this past weekend....made it easy to stitch all day and night!) I picked this up this oldie but goodie last week at a LNS and loved it at first sight! The colors were kind of odd once I pulled them but I love them now that it is finished. I have another older Goode Huswife sampler, 1797 Ship Sampler, and will have to add it to my To Do pile.

Year in Review......

The best part about blogging is it truly is a "journal" of your stitching endeavors and I spent Sunday afternoon going through my finishes this past year. I was amazed at how many I had forgotten about and quickly realized by framing budget needs to be quadrupled! After a quick tabulation, my 2009 finishes included 68 total finishes which included...

26 SOS challenge (stitch own stash challenge=50)
9 ornaments (big bummer...should have been more)
19 exchanges (what wonderful goodies I received)

I put myself on a "stash diet" last year and challenged myself to stitch 50 designs from my stash before making any new purchases. I fell off the wagon a few times, but did cut back on my purchasing considerably. I still have so much older stuff I want to stitch so I plan to continue on my "diet" again this year. It was fun going through everything and "rediscovering" some older stash so it would be a shame not to stitch some of them. My goal this year is to stitch at least 25 with the understanding, of course, that gift money and gift certificates used for new stash don't count !

Thanks for looking and all of your wonderful comments! Wishing all of you happy stitches.....

  1. Fantastic finish Karen! Congrats! 68 finishes! Amazing!!! Good luck on your diet :)

  2. Oh gosh, I love your finish! This one has been in the stash for years, I really need to get to it! Seeing yours is definitely inspiration to pull it out!

  3. What a great start for the year!!!!! This is gorgeous!!!!!
You are soooo productive last year!!!! Stash diet sounds pretty good, but all those amazing designs out there makes it so hard to keep up for me!!!!
Can't wait to see what else you have in store for us this year~~

  4. Lovely finish Karen I though what lovely colours when I opened your blog. You did good with your finishes last year a fantastic total.

  5. Love your finish, Karen.I really like the colors. Congrats on last years finishes.

  6. LOVE it :)
I started an old Goode Huswife too on New Years Day, unfortunately mine isn't done yet, but hopefully soon :)
My goodness you had a lot of finishes! Congratulations!

  7. What a great finish Karen!! You stitched that so fast! You have such willpower. You have seen me at Amy's and know that I do not! I'm going to try to be better this year. I too am going to try to stitch from my stash more and only spend gift money on stash. We'll have to encourage each other! :)

  8. What a great finish to start the year! I won't have a finish any time soon... too ambitious! I have had every intention of seeing how many finishes I have done this year, only to be interrupted for this and that each evening. Maybe today!

  9. Isn't it amazing how, when you sometimes begin a piece and look at the thread colors, you think "What was the designer thinking?" but then when it is all stitched you totally understand why the colors were chosen? It is beautiful, Karen!

Congratulations on a great stitching year, too!

  10. That is beautiful Karen..and so fast!~ Oh my!~~ That piece has especially caught my eye!!! Good job! Faye

  11. Karen, that is gorgeous!! YGG, I love it.

Congratulations on your 2009 accomplishments. I'm trying to do the stitch from the stash thing, too. As you said, there's so much great stuff in older stash that gets forgotten when the new stuff comes around. I'll be crying when Market comes around next month, but I'm trying to be good. ;)

    Happy new year!

  12. Wonderful finish Karen! Congrats on all your 2009 accomplishments and best of luck with your 2010 goals :)

  14. Fabulous first finish! Love that design.
    Good Luck with the diet.

  15. Thanks for visiting my blog. Looking forward to stitching through the seasons with you. Happy Stitching!

  16. Happy Dance for you! That's awesome and what a lovely piece Karen :o)

I'd say you will need a bigger framing budget at that rate. LOL! I've tried the diet many times and kept falling off the wagon so I gave up ;o)

  17. Very beautiful finish! I love your blog!

    Greetings from Debby,
    the Netherlands

  18. So, so pretty! I agree with your idea that gift monies don't count towards the stash diet!

  19. A very beautiful piece of art! Thanks for sharing!

  20. Beautiful finish. Love the design, the colours are so deep but bright.

Who doesn't love a good comment....or a bad one for that matter! Thanks a bunch for visiting my little piece of the stitching universe! If you're new, I will be sure to visit you too.
