Goode Huswife "The Bird Tree"

Goode Huswife "he Bird Tree"
Stitched on coffee-dyed 32ct Buttercream
w/recommended DMC

I have always loved this design and it was a sweet design to stitch.  The colors were a little brighter once I finished so I decided to give it a warm coffee bath to tone it down.  I really like the way it turned out and hope to frame it soon.

With a good dose of coffee....

I always steam the wet piece with a hot iron to bring out the coffee stain and this pic really shows the effect on the fabric.  It really gives a vintage look that I just love.

So...that's 4 down and 11 more to go!   I spent the day with stitching friends yesterday hosted by Amy and I got a lot down on my next Challenge piece, Goode Huswife's "The Tree of Life".   I love that the coloring is similar for many of the Goode Huswife and CHS samplers so I hope to have a wall full before the end of the year!

Well...back to stitching.  I did make a quick trip to Michael's today to take advantage of their sale and couldn't resist this stamp.  Think this will be my motto for all of my stitching......

  25. Oooh, Karen. I'ts loovely! Thanks for sharing this finish. I really needed to see it, 'cause I started the same on 32c cream linen late last year and wasn't at all happy with the look so I put it away. BUT now? Joy! The coffee trick'll do the job. I think this one will see the light of day again. Thanks,
    Pokua

It was nice to meet so many stitchers at Amy's on Saturday. I knew I couldn't be alone in stitching at the beach that there really must be others.

  40. Love it! Wish I were bold enough to just break out the coffee if I think it's too bright. I'm really only okay with "distressing" If I planned to do it from the outset.
